Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room Profession: RN Specialty: RN - ER Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum Years of Experience: Preferred License: Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQI BLS) certification required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS OR HS-ACLS OR RQIACLS) certification required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required. Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification required. Must-Have: Must have EPIC experience. Demonstrated competency in Dysrhythmia during orientation. Demonstrated competency in IV Sedation within 6 months of hire. Description: The registered professional nurse is responsible and accountable for a group of patients for a designated shift. The nurse prescribes nursing care based on the nursing process that is consistent with the medical plan of care. Care is based on input from the patient and significant others. Collaboration with physicians and other members of the healthcare team is essential. The nurse coordinates the delivery of patient care to individuals of various ages. Teaching and discharge planning needs are incorporated into the overall plan of care. Delegation of certain aspects of patient care delivery to other nursing staff is based on their clinical competence and legal scope of practice. Utilization of the nursing process includes assessing patients, designing and implementing an individualized plan of care, and evaluating the effectiveness of the plan. Modification of the plan occurs as necessary, while considering age-specific, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients. Collaboration with other disciplines to formulate the plan of care for assigned patients is crucial. Knowledge of illnesses, injuries, diseases, and developmental stages is applied to the delivery of patient care. Pharmacology knowledge, including action, route of administration, side effects, and contraindications, is utilized when preparing and administering medications and IV therapy. Patient and family education is provided in all phases of care delivery. Assessment of knowledge is conducted to plan appropriate learning activities. Techniques and materials are varied according to the patients' age and unique needs. Effectiveness of educational efforts is evaluated through feedback from patients and families. Response to emergency patient situations or internal/external disasters is conducted by following established protocols. Calmness and appropriate communication with relevant persons are maintained during emergencies. Oversight of the delivery of patient care includes challenging or correcting errors to ensure patient safety and wellbeing. Timely reporting of observations, reactions, and problems regarding patients is required. Responsibility and accountability for problem-solving and clinical decision-making is essential on assigned shifts. Continuity of care is ensured by promptly processing and following through on physician's orders. Demonstrating an ability to set appropriate priorities in providing patient care is necessary, as is the ability to respond to changes in workload. Acting as the patient's advocate involves ensuring patient rights and intervening when necessary. Knowledge of job descriptions is required, as well as appropriate delegation to nursing assistants and student nurses. The nurse accepts responsibility for their own actions and decisions. Practice adheres to the Nurse Practice Act. Professional responsibilities and legal scope of practice are maintained. Effective communication with patients, families, staff, and physicians is utilized to ensure quality care. Documentation of assessments, nursing interventions, and care provided to all assigned patients is completed accurately. Technical aspects of patient care are performed according to established policies. Medications and IVs are prepared and administered with consideration of age-specific needs. Emergency procedures, such as CPR, are performed and assessed for patient response. Demonstration of safe use of equipment, including infusion pumps and physiologic monitors, is required. Additional job-related duties may be assigned as necessary.
