Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Room Services Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 1 Day and 1 Night needed Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2+ years of emergency nursing experience required License: Client RN License Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS required Must-Have: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) required Description: The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible and accountable for prescribing and coordinating all nursing care as defined by the Nursing Practice Act. Interventions are carried out in collaboration with the care providers and other members of the healthcare team in response to patient and family needs. The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for care delivery and renders services to patients ranging from newborn to adult. In accordance with professional nursing standards and practices, the registered nurse will provide nursing care to all needing care. Assessment duties include assessing patients' physical, social, behavioral, and mental status through direct observation, interview, and medical record review. This includes assessment from history and data collection obtained from the patient and/or care providers. The nurse determines mobility, sensory deficits, and skin condition and adjusts the plan of care as appropriate. Documentation of a nursing assessment includes psychosocial, environmental factors, educational level, and needs. The nurse obtains and reviews available databases and any data collected by other members of the health team. Identifying medical problems resulting from psychological or mental illness and use of medications is also a key responsibility. The nurse communicates findings with other members of the healthcare team including social workers, case managers, therapists, and physicians. Planning includes identifying and addressing needs for admission based on acute medical/surgical diagnoses and presenting physical and psychological symptoms. The nurse identifies and addresses patient level of education and learning needs. Referrals to other disciplines are made as appropriate and documented. Physical demands involve standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and bending. The role may include some repetitive motions. Required skills and experience include intervention and implementation of clinical skills in the provision of nursing care and management of the patient. This involves identification of symptoms, management of disease entities, treatment modalities, and administration of medications. The nurse intervenes appropriately in medical/surgical and critical emergencies utilizing crisis intervention. Critical thinking is utilized in patient assessment and in interventions. Infection control procedures and protocols are to be followed and psychosocial needs of all critically ill patients must be addressed. Providing health teaching and medication instructions to patients and their next of kin is essential. The nurse ensures that all procedures are performed based on established standards of care and demonstrates competency in all procedures within the scope of practice. Investigating and communicating all required information regarding unusual occurrences and patient care incidents is expected. Acting as a patient advocate is a crucial aspect of the role. Evaluation involves revising the patient’s plan of care based on the evaluation of interventions and expected outcomes in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team. Effective communication in English, both verbally and in writing, is required.
