Registered Nurse - Obstetrics (L&D, Postpartum, Nursery)

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse to join our dedicated Obstetrics team in Waimea, Hawaii. This role is based in a 5-bed OB Unit, providing comprehensive care across Antepartum, Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, Nursery, and Outpatient Testing services.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a diverse patient population, including high-risk pregnancies, laboring patients, and newborns requiring various levels of care. This position requires a compassionate professional capable of adapting to fluctuating census needs and providing exceptional patient-centered care in a dynamic environment.

This is a critical role for an RN with a strong background in all facets of obstetrical nursing, committed to ensuring positive outcomes for mothers and infants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for Antepartum, Intrapartum, Postpartum, and high-risk obstetrical patients (e.g., PIH, placenta abruption, prolapse cord, placenta previa, VBAC, GDM, PTL, PROM).
  • Manage laboring patients, including monitoring and interpreting fetal heart rates, administering and titrating medications such as Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, and Insulin drips.
  • Care for Observation and Non-Stress Test (NST) patients.
  • Provide specialized care for newborns, including well babies, those requiring phototherapy (Bilibed, Neoblue), and Special Care Nursery infants.
  • Perform and assist with various procedures such as starting adult and neonatal IVs, adult and neonatal Accu checks, PKU on newborns, newborn resuscitation, APGAR scoring, bulb suctioning, and DeLee suctioning.
  • Assist physicians with procedures including circumcisions, external cephalic versions (ECV), and monitoring patients with intrauterine pressure catheters (IUPC) or internal scalp electrodes (ISE) during amnioinfusions.
  • Support anesthesia administration for intrathecal or epidural procedures and monitor PCA pumps.
  • Attend C-Sections, provide immediate newborn care post-delivery, and recover patients following C-Sections or Bilateral Tubal Ligations (BTL).
  • Administer IV fluids and IVPB medications accurately and safely.
  • Float to other departments as needed based on census and unit requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Hawaii.
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Nursery (couplet care).
  • Demonstrated experience caring for Antepartum, Intrapartum, Postpartum, and Nursery patient populations.
  • Ability to start adult and neonatal IVs and perform adult and neonatal Accu checks.

Shift Details
  • Shift Type: Flexible, with a preference for night shifts.
  • Shift Duration: 8 hours per shift.
