Job Title: RN - Critical Care Profession: Nursing Specialty: Critical Care Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 3 years of ICU experience License: RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS; NIHSS preferred Must-Have: - Vent/trach management experience - Invasive line management experience (arterial lines, central venous pressure lines, Swan-Ganz) - Skills in managing drains, chest tubes, foley catheters - Experience in post-surgical recovery and post-catheterization care - Capable of CVVH and CRRT Description: This position is for a critical care RN. The facility is a Level III Trauma Center. It has a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and serves as a Primary Stroke Center. The unit consists of 17 beds. The average daily census varies. The patient population includes individuals with conditions such as sepsis, alcohol use disorder, intravenous drug abuse, overdose, suicidal ideation, delirium, gastrointestinal bleeds, strokes with TPA, acute renal failure, COVID-19, and diabetic ketoacidosis. Surgical patients may include general, orthopedic (total joints), ENT, and obstetrics/gynecology cases. Cardiac and vascular procedures include femoral-popliteal bypass, coronary artery bypass grafting, endovascular repair, valve surgery, post-cardiac catheterization (both radial and femoral approaches), abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, and amputations. There is a patient ratio of 1:2, based on acuity. Support within the department includes certified nursing assistants and a charge nurse who may have patient assignments. There is a hospitalist and intensivist on duty 24/7, with additional support from an ICU-specific pharmacist during the day. The technology and equipment used include an electronic medical record system and specific monitoring equipment. Travelers may float within their scope of practice, including intermediate units, medical-surgical units, and observation units. Scheduling requires every other weekend rotation and the expectation of one holiday per contract. Approval for requests for time off goes through the nurse manager. Shift times are from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM and 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with scheduling done in four-week increments. Scrubs can be any color, excluding camouflage, graphics, logos, and designs. Excessive sick calls may lead to discussions regarding contract evaluation and potential termination.
