Job Description – Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Stepdown/PCU

Position: Registered Nurse (RN) – Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Assignment Type: Travel
Shift: 3x12 Nights (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of Stepdown/PCU experience
  • First-time travelers not accepted
  • Active Illinois RN License required (Pending license not accepted)
  • Current BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
  • ACLS preferred

Required Clinical Experience

Candidates must have recent experience with:

  • Telemetry
  • Neuro Stepdown
  • PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown

Cardiac & Emergency Care

  • Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
  • Telemetry monitoring
  • Rapid Response Team participation
  • Post-cardiac angiogram
  • Post-MI care
  • Pre/Post cardiac catheterization
  • Pre/Post cardiac surgery
  • Sheath removal
  • TR Band management

IV Therapy & Medication Management

  • Peripheral IV insertion and maintenance
  • PICC and central line care
  • Accessing implanted ports
  • Arterial line management
  • Blood product administration
  • Phlebotomy
  • Heparin protocols
  • Cardiac and vasoactive drips (including titration)
  • PCA management
  • Procedural sedation administration

Neurology

  • Craniotomy
  • Stroke (CVA)
  • Pre/Post neurosurgery
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

Respiratory

  • Ventilator care
  • Chest tube management
  • CPAP/BiPAP
  • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
  • ABG interpretation
  • Tracheostomy care
  • Oxygen delivery systems
  • Non-invasive airway management

Additional Required Experience

  • Feeding tube care and management
  • Pre/Post hemodialysis management
  • Renal failure
  • Orthopedic trauma
  • Total joint replacements
  • Peripheral nerve block catheters
  • Skin grafts
  • Surgical drain management
  • Isolation precautions
  • Wound care and wound VAC management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cerner EMR experience
  • Teaching hospital experience
  • Level I Trauma Center experience

Unit Details

  • Will float within scope based on facility needs
  • No on-call requirement
  • Every other weekend required
  • Block scheduling may be discussed with the hiring manager

Scheduling & Time Off

  • 13-week assignment
  • Maximum of 5 days RTO preferred
  • Facility may call off up to 36 hours during the assignment without guarantee
