Job Title: Clinical Nurse (RN) Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum three years of acute care experience required License: California Registered Nurse License Certifications: AHA BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Experience in Labor and Delivery Description: The Clinical Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering safe, effective, quality nursing care. This care is provided according to the philosophy and goals of the Department of Nursing. The RN utilizes Jean Watson's Theory of Caring and Relationship-Based Care. The RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care for all assigned patients. They make determinations regarding the patient's progress toward goals. The RN utilizes a therapeutic professional relationship with the patient and family. Interdisciplinary collaboration facilitates the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health. Care is tailored to the specific physiological, developmental, and psychosocial needs of the patient. The RN is responsible for demonstrating competency by applying scientific knowledge in nursing practice. The RN provides care in line with the interdisciplinary plan of care. They conduct ongoing assessments of the patient's physical and psychosocial condition. The RN formulates a nursing diagnosis based on observations and information from the client and the health team. In collaboration with the client, the RN formulates a care plan ensuring safety, comfort, and hygiene. They explain health treatments and educate the client and family on health needs. The RN evaluates the effectiveness of the care plan, modifying it as necessary. They demonstrate a current working knowledge and safe use of equipment and medications. The RN delegates tasks to care team members based on their legal scopes of practice. They supervise nursing care being provided by the care team. As the client's advocate, the RN initiates actions to improve healthcare and supports informed decision-making. They provide culturally competent, age-appropriate, ethical care within legal standards. The RN coordinates patient care activities with nurses, physicians, and allied health professionals. Effective communication is essential for facilitating safe patient handoffs. Documentation of nursing care is completed per hospital policies. The RN contributes to positive patient care experiences through interactions with patients and families. They are accountable for understanding the impact of personal behaviors on patient experience. The RN assists in the resolution of complaints, aiming for immediate resolution when possible. They investigate complaints and provide necessary information to supervisors. Additional duties may be assigned as required.
