LTAC Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Alabama
  • Minimum of 2 years of post-graduate bedside clinical nursing experience
  • Previous LTAC, stepdown, or intensive care unit (ICU) nursing experience required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required before the first shift
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required before the first shift
  • Strong patient assessment, clinical judgment, communication, and time-management skills
  • Ability to provide safe, compassionate nursing care to patients with complex medical needs

Travel RN Responsibilities

  • Complete comprehensive nursing assessments within the required timeframe and develop individualized plans of care.
  • Provide direct patient care using the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Monitor patient condition, recognize changes in status, and promptly communicate pertinent information to appropriate care team members.
  • Document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and care updates accurately and promptly in the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary care conferences and contribute to patient rehabilitation and recovery goals.
  • Provide patient and family education related to diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, safety, and discharge needs.
  • Initiate discharge planning from admission and support continuity of care throughout the patient stay.
  • Delegate appropriately and provide direction, training, and supervision to LPNs, CNAs, and orienting staff.
  • Promote patient and workplace safety by following infection prevention, safe patient handling, fall prevention, and facility policies.
  • Prioritize care effectively, maintain a safe environment, and collaborate with nursing leadership to support quality patient outcomes.
  • Assume charge nurse responsibilities after completing orientation when requested.
