Job Summary

The Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to an assigned group of patients while utilizing the nursing process, clinical judgment, and evidence-based nursing practices. The RN is responsible for patient assessment, care planning, medication administration, documentation, patient education, safety, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Responsibilities

• Complete initial and ongoing patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
• Implement nursing interventions and modify the plan of care based on ongoing patient evaluation.
• Administer medications using the five rights of medication administration.
• Monitor and interpret vital signs and recognize changes in patient condition.
• Complete admissions, discharges, hourly rounding, care plans, and patient education.
• Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation according to Carle Med/Surg standards.
• Receive and provide bedside shift reports while ensuring patient safety and continuity of care.
• Delegate appropriate patient-care responsibilities to Healthcare Technicians and validate completion.
• Maintain patient safety through fall precautions, pressure ulcer prevention, isolation precautions, and safe ambulation practices.
• Respond promptly to patient call lights and appropriately triage patient needs.
• Use critical thinking and nursing judgment to identify and respond to changes in patient status.
• Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Coordinate patient care, testing, admissions, and discharges to promote efficient patient flow.
• Maintain departmental competencies and participate in professional development.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of relevant nursing experience
• ASN/Associate Degree in Nursing required
• Active Illinois RN License in good standing
• BLS – American Heart Association
• Strong clinical assessment, critical-thinking, and nursing judgment skills
