Position Overview

Carle Foundation Hospital is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for the R7 Inpatient Overflow Med/Surg unit. The RN will provide comprehensive care to a group of patients using the nursing process, clinical judgment, evidence-based interventions, and effective collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
• Implement nursing interventions and continuously evaluate patient responses.
• Administer medications following the five rights of medication administration.
• Monitor and interpret vital signs and recognize changes in patient condition.
• Complete admissions, discharges, hourly rounding, care plans, and patient education.
• Provide safe and effective patient care while maintaining accurate documentation.
• Receive and provide bedside shift reports and communicate pertinent patient information.
• Delegate appropriate tasks to Healthcare Technicians and verify completion.
• Maintain patient safety through fall precautions, pressure ulcer prevention, isolation precautions, and safe ambulation practices.
• Use critical thinking and nursing judgment to identify and respond to changes in patient status.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Assist with efficient patient flow, testing, admissions, and discharges, particularly for observation patients.

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of relevant RN experience
• ASN required
• BSN preferred
• Active Illinois RN license in good standing
• BLS – American Heart Association
• Strong assessment, critical-thinking, patient-care, and documentation skills
• Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with the healthcare team
