Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: RN Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience required License: RN License required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required Must-Have: Patient care assistants on the unit support RNs by obtaining vital signs and blood glucose checks. RNs are responsible for interpreting telemetry cardiac rhythms during shifts. Experience with PCA management, surgical drains, wound care, and telemetry monitoring is preferred. Comfort in learning about cardiac drips, such as Cardizem and Amiodarone, is necessary. Description: This position involves providing nursing care on a medical-surgical and telemetry unit. The unit typically cares for patients with general medical conditions, as well as some cardiac cases, pneumonia, UTIs, and chest pain. The average patient ratio is one RN to four patients and one CNA to eight patients. Support staff, including charge nurses and receptionists, assist with patient care and administrative duties. The hospital features a 24/7 respiratory therapy team and hospitalist and intensivist coverage. Telemetry monitors are available in the unit, and RNs are expected to actively engage in reading and interpreting strips. The facility utilizes an electronic medical record system and advanced medication dispensing technology. Scrub color required on the unit is royal blue. The unit culture is described as friendly, and it operates within an academic healthcare setting.
