Description:
The position involves providing care to patients in a busy, team-oriented environment.
The MedSurg/Telemetry unit has 20-36 beds.
Common patient diagnoses include acute and chronic diseases, diabetes, hypertension, infections, and cardiac conditions such as post-cath, congestive heart failure, and atrial fibrillation.
Post-surgical care includes general, orthopedic, and trauma patients.
Patient ratios are RN: 1:4-6, LPN: 1:4-6, and CNA: up to 1:14.
CNA support includes vitals, blood glucose checks, bathing, and patient safety.
Unit secretaries are available from 7 AM to 11 PM.
Charge nurses may have patient assignments.
Phlebotomy services are provided by RNs drawing from central venous lines.
A dedicated telemetry monitoring unit is available.
EMR system used is EPIC.
IV pumps in use include Alaris, and medication dispensing is through Pyxis.
Travelers will be required to float to all MedSurg/Telemetry units as needed.
Weekend rotation requires 5-6 weekend shifts out of 12 within a 6-week schedule.
Holiday expectations include working one shift of each major holiday.
Requests for time off must go through the manager for approval.
The unit culture is characterized by a busy, team-oriented atmosphere.
