Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2 years License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS Must-Have: - Cardiac gtts experience (Primacor, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dobutamine) - Heparin, Lasix and insulin gtt experience - Chest tube and tracheostomy care - Telemetry reading and wound care skills Description: This facility is a Level III Trauma Center with a comprehensive stroke center designation. It has a total of 933 beds, including a 27-bed NICU. The unit provides care for various patient types including those requiring cardiac interventions such as cath lab procedures, amputations, and pre-surgical evaluations. Patients typically sent for surgical interventions will not return unless no intervention was performed. The unit handles complex cases such as open heart and vascular patients, chronic heart failure patients, electrophysiology studies, atrial fibrillation, dysrhythmias, and Coumadin loading. Patient-to-nurse ratios on days and evenings are 1:4-5. Overnight ratios are 1:6-8. Patient care is supported by a charge nurse, unit secretary, and hospitalist available 24/7. Respiratory therapy and centralized telemetry monitoring are also provided around the clock. The charting system in use is EPIC, and familiarity with Alaris, Pyxis, and GE monitors is preferred. Floating to other inpatient areas may be required, including rare assignments to intensive care. A weekend rotation is necessary, occurring every other weekend. Holidays include one summer and one winter holiday commitment. There is a fatigue policy in place that restricts staff from working more than 60 hours in a week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts. Scrub color is flexible, excluding camo or denim. Pain levels need to be documented before and after administering pain medications, adhering to medication order guidelines.
