Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical - Neuro Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years with 1 year of direct Medical Surgical experience License: Active nursing license required Certifications: BCLS, NIH, NIHSS; ACLS preferred Must-Have: - Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, including 1 year in Medical Surgical - Experience with IV Start and Telemetry - Ability to interpret dysrhythmias and manage dysrhythmias - Experience with Med/Surg neuro patients Description: Cross posting after booking is not allowed. Any call-offs or additional time off could result in a cancel and do not reschedule. The unit will not accept first-time travelers. Travelers must have at least two successful contracts before applying. Local candidates are accepted. Nursing skills required include IV start and telemetry experience. Understanding and management of dysrhythmias is essential. Certification in BCLS and NIH is required. ACLS certification is preferred but not mandatory. Patient ratios on the unit are 1:6. Contracts may extend for 13-26 weeks. The traveler is required to work every other weekend. Frequent floating may be required to other medical-surgical areas. The primary patient population includes stroke patients and potential neurosurgery cases. Other patient diagnoses may include epilepsy, subdural hematomas, and other neuro conditions. The unit has a 4-bed epilepsy monitoring unit. Nurses on this unit may float to various medical-surgical specialties as needed. Travelers calling out for shifts must make up that shift within the same week or at the end of their contract. Navy scrubs are required for this position. EKG testing must be passed prior to starting. Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed.
