Travel Nurse RN - Neuro - $2,308 per week in Peoria, IL

The unit consists of 54 beds with a mix of semi-private rooms. Day shift nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5, while night shift ratios are 1:5-6. Common types of patients include those with stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and other neuroscience conditions, as well as some medical overflow. RNs are required to titrate drips and must have experience with heparin titrated drips based on PTT. A charge nurse is available 24/7. Charge nurses do not take on patient assignments unless staffing requires it and nurse-to-patient ratios would not be met. A house supervisor is also available 24/7. Patient care technicians are present on the unit, with ratios of 1:9-10 during the day and evening shifts, and 1:10-12 at night. While RNs are not required to interpret telemetry strips, they may troubleshoot high flow equipment for stable patients. The schedule consists of 12-hour shifts, with requests being accommodated as much as possible. Weekend shifts are required every other weekend, and holiday shifts are required on a similar rotation. Floating may occur, and staff will not float to areas outside their skill competencies without a trained nurse present. There are no specific scrub color requirements, but tattoos must be covered while on duty, and only ear piercings are permitted. Orientation for the unit includes two days involving both computer training and caring for patients under a preceptor's guidance.
