Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Neuro Tele 4W Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hours Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: 2-3 years of experience in specialty; open to first-time travelers. Description: Unit has 22 beds. Common diagnoses include Stroke, TIA, Seizure, TBI, and mixed Med Tele. Nurses are not required to titrate drips. Common titratable or set rate drips include Heparin gtt, Amiodarone ftt, Cardizem gtt, and DKA set rate or protocol. Telemetry/Monitor Technicians are present on this unit. Nurses must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips. The telemetry monitors are GE Apex Telemetry boxes. Central telemetry monitoring is available with 2 Monitor Technicians. Nurses are required to pass a dysrhythmia exam. There is one Nurse Shift Manager and one Resource/Break RN who do not take patient assignments. There are 1-2 Unit Aides on this unit. Respiratory/Equipment available includes Bipap, Cpap, and High-Flow Nasal Cannula; no vents present. Shifts are 12 hours, from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM, with schedules made about 3 weeks in advance. Self-scheduling is available by seniority; shift trades are permitted. Weekend requirements include working 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule. Day shifts occur on Saturday and Sunday; night shifts occur on Friday and Saturday. Holiday requirements involve working into the permanent staff rotation. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating to IMCU or Med/Surg Departments may be required. Scrubs are navy in color. Unit-specific orientation involves one shift on the unit. This is a very busy unit, typically full with 22 patients. The focus is on bedside shift report, patient experience, HCAHPS, and core measures, specifically stroke measures. The ideal candidate should be invested in the mission and values. Self-motivation and a team-oriented attitude are essential. The unit is traveler-friendly. The cancellation policy allows for up to 4 shifts to be canceled per 13-week assignment. The charting system used is Cerner. A BSN is not required. Certification for COVID vaccination is required. The trauma level is 2. The care setting is acute. The division is nursing. Shift notes indicate rotations for 12-hour nights, every other weekend, with first to float requirements. Required certifications include ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS.
