Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Under the supervision of a designated physician, take complete psychiatric and medical histories; perform complete physical examinations when appropriate; instruct and counsel patients regarding matters pertaining to their physical and mental health, such as long-term management of their illness; under direction, arrange for hospital admission of patients; assist physician on hospital rounds; facilitate the physician's referral of clients to the appropriate health facilities, agencies, and resources in the community; perform a variety of routine laboratory tests; maintain records and upkeep of equipment; assist the physician at medication clinics in ordering of drugs and supplies; assist the physician in providing services to clients requiring continued care, including the review and implementation of treatment and therapy plans. Ability to: Work effectively as an interdisciplinary team member in the delivery of mental health care services; identify medical problems and psychiatric disorders and develop and implement treatment plans; evaluate patient behavior; perform thorough physical examinations; identify medical problems; analyze crisis situations accurately and take effective action; speak and write effectively, including preparing clear and concise reports and records; assess clients and obtain a complete medical and psychiatric history; support clients in their recovery, assuring consent for medication is obtained.
