The RN provides care to these patients utilizing the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, and financial and human resources within the institution's philosophy. The RN performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit specific to the scope of service. The RN implements procedures and theories related to their area of practice. The RN maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure information integration for the healthcare team. The RN completes initial assessments upon patient admission and develops appropriate plans of care based on patient and family needs. The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. The RN modifies the plan of care based on continuous evaluation. The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. The RN communicates directly and privately when necessary to resolve issues. The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers and conferences with colleagues to expand their knowledge base. The RN identifies their learning needs and takes the initiative to begin appropriate solutions. The RN fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. The RN appropriately performs patient care duties such as head-to-toe assessments, starting IVs, inserting NG tubes, dressing changes, administering medications, and inserting Foley catheters. The RN accesses Mediports and maintains the port throughout the shift. The RN must maintain documentation standards as indicated by passed quarterly chart audits. The RN assists with bone marrow aspirations at the bedside. The RN provides emotional support to patients and their families. The RN administers chemotherapy and biotherapy to patients not only in the oncology unit but also throughout the facility. The RN administers outpatient treatments to oncology patients when the outpatient center is closed.
