Description:
The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame.
This role involves providing care to these patients by utilizing the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial, and human resources.
The staff RN performs all responsibilities and duties required by unit specific to the scope of service.
Procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice are implemented.
Accurate documentation of nursing care provided is maintained to assure integration of information for use by the healthcare team.
Initial assessment upon patient admission is completed, and an appropriate plan of care is developed based on patient and family needs.
The plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures are implemented.
The plan of care is modified based on continuous evaluation.
Patient and employee safety is prioritized by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
Direct communication is utilized to resolve issues when necessary.
Constructive feedback is offered to assist in the professional development of peers.
Colleagues are consulted to expand the knowledge base.
Self-identified learning needs drive the initiative to find appropriate solutions.
Fulfillment of all departmental competencies is required.
Specific functions of the department include providing post-operative care for the complex surgical population.
Assessment and appropriate intervention are performed to ensure positive outcomes during the post-operative phase.
Monitoring and care for newly tracheostomies are essential.
Wounds that require complex wound management and wound vacs are assessed and maintained.
Patient and family education on new ostomies is provided.
Collaborative efforts are made with surgical residency services.
