Description:
The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame.
The RN provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial, and human resources within the philosophy of the institution.
The RN performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit, specific to the scope of service.
They implement procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.
The RN maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team.
They complete the initial assessment upon patient admission and develop an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards, based on patient and family needs.
The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.
They modify the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation.
The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
They communicate with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues.
The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers and confers with colleagues to expand knowledge.
They identify their own learning needs and take initiative to begin appropriate solutions.
The RN fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies.
They provide post-operative care for complex surgical populations.
The RN assesses and intervenes appropriately to ensure positive outcomes during the post-operative phase.
They monitor and care for newly established tracheostomies.
The RN assesses and maintains wounds that require advanced management.
They assess, manage, and educate patients and families on new ostomies.
The RN works collaboratively with residency services.
