PACU Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and skilled PACU Registered Nurse to provide exceptional patient care in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in surgical patient recovery, demonstrating proficiency in managing complex patient needs following anesthesia. This role requires flexibility for on-call shifts and a commitment to high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative care for patients undergoing various surgical procedures.
• Perform assessments, monitor vital signs, and support patients in recovery from anesthesia.
• Administer medications, manage IVs, and implement pain management strategies.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
• Educate patients and families on post-operative care and follow-up procedures.
• Float to Preoperative unit as needed to ensure operational efficiency.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 1 year of recent PACU nursing experience.
• Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and PALS.
• Ability to obtain a New Mexico nursing license (pending applications accepted).
• Proven expertise in managing patients recovering from general surgery, orthopedic surgery, urology/gynecology procedures, bariatric surgery, HEENT, and interventional radiology procedures.
• Competence in handling pediatric patients, as well as level 3 trauma cases.
• Flexibility to work on-call shifts, including weekend responsibilities (2 weekend shifts and 4 night shifts per 6-week rotation).

Desired Skills:

• Ability to perform 12 lead EKGs and participate in pre/post cath lab procedures.
• Experience with inpatient PACU care, and management of arterial lines, blood products, and central lines.
• Proficient in sedation techniques, including conscious sedation, epidurals, general anesthesia, and nerve blocks.
• Familiarity with pain assessment and management strategies, including PCA management.
• Knowledge of malignant hyperthermia protocols and ICP monitoring.

Work Environment:

This position is located within a community-based hospital that emphasizes comprehensive, patient-centered care. The facility operates as a Level III Trauma Center and a Level I Teaching institution, fostering a collaborative approach to healthcare delivery.
