Med Surg/PCU/Tele Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Details

This is a night shift position in a Med Surg/PCU/Tele unit, specifically within a 28-bed neuro trauma setting. The Registered Nurse will provide care for patients with various neurological and trauma-related diagnoses.

Shift Information

• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week
• Scheduling: Self-scheduling (manager to balance) opens 6 weeks in advance
• Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirements: Typically required for 2 out of 3 holidays during winter

Responsibilities

• Provide care for patients with neuro-focused conditions such as strokes, seizures, and spinal injuries.
• Monitor and manage patients on ventilators and tracheostomies.
• Titrate IV drips including Heparin, Nitro, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, and Insulin.
• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes.
• Supervise and guide nursing aides as needed.
• Float to sister Med Surg units as required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in Medical Surgical (MS), Progressive Care Unit (PCU), or Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
• Experience in setting required within the last year.
• Must possess current BLS and NIHSS certifications.
• Experience with trach and vent care is highly preferred, though training may be provided.
• Open to first-time travelers.

Patient Care Details

• Common diagnoses include neuro specialties, trauma orthopedic injuries, and patients recovering from procedures such as thrombectomies.
• Nurse to patient ratios: Days 1:4-5, Nights 1:5-6, depending on acuity.
• Available respiratory therapy equipment includes vents, CPAP, BIPAP, and Vapo therm.

Orientation

New hires will receive a general orientation shift followed by a shift with a preceptor for hands-on training.

Dress Code

Solid color scrubs are required for all staff members.
