Job Summary:
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Nurse position is located in Oakland, California. This role involves providing specialized critical care to pediatric patients within a Level 1 trauma center that manages neuro and cardiac emergencies. The position requires flexibility to float to other UCSF facilities as needed, with an emphasis on high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment.

Job Details:

• Schedule: Night shifts, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 36 hours per week
• Required Qualifications: Valid California Registered Nurse (RN) license, American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) certification, at least 5 years of relevant pediatric critical care experience including PICU experience, and experience with Epic electronic charting system
• Preferred Qualifications: Pediatric cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVICU) experience, trauma level I experience, and familiarity with complex patient management
• Certifications: BLS, PALS, CA RN license
• Skills: End-Tidal Carbon Dioxide (CO2) monitoring, managing ports, renal failure management, blood administration, seizure management, arterial line care, intubation assistance, ventilator management, sedation protocols, invasive line care, hemodynamic monitoring, infection control, ICP monitoring, ventilator weaning, and comprehensive pediatric critical care procedures
• Additional Information: The role involves caring for neonates, infants, adolescents, and pediatric patients with a daily census and patient visits that vary. The unit is equipped for mixed neuro and cardiac cases and maintains interdisciplinary support including physical therapy, respiratory services, radiology, and social services. Orientation is 24 hours, and the start date is August 18, 2026.
