Job Title: RN - Peds PACU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Pediatric Post Anesthesia Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 1 year required, 2 years preferred in the critical care pediatric space License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, PALS Must-Have: Must have completed at least one travel assignment Description: This position is for a Pediatric Post Anesthesia Care RN. The facility has 885 licensed beds and holds a Level 1 Trauma designation. It is a teaching hospital and an academic medical center. The unit has 20 bays with an average census of 30-40 patients per day. The patient population primarily consists of pediatric patients aged 0-17, mainly inpatients but also some outpatients. The unit covers most surgical specialties, excluding cardiac cases. Patient ratios are typically RN 1:1 or 1:2, depending on acuity. Candidates must be comfortable managing medications commonly found in intensive care settings, including heparin and insulin. Vented patients are typically transported directly to the ICU, and BiPAP is used rarely, mainly in a postoperative context. Nurses are responsible for telemetry monitoring. There is a dedicated support system with a transport team, a unit coordinator, a PACU educator, and a charge nurse or manager who does not take patients. Scrubs are provided for this position. The work environment promotes a team-oriented mentality, where all team members are encouraged to seek help when needed. Occasionally, nurses may care for adult patients based on unit needs. Technology used in the unit includes an EMR system, IV pumps, medication dispensing systems, and patient monitors.
