The Registered Nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for a designated group of patients for a specific shift.
Nursing care is prescribed based on the nursing process, which is consistent with medical plans of care.
Input from patients and significant others is considered in the care plan.
The nurse collaborates with physicians and other healthcare team members to coordinate patient care.
Care is provided to patients of all ages, including neonatal, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
Teaching and discharge planning needs are incorporated into the overall plan of care.
Certain aspects of patient care delivery may be delegated to other nursing staff based on their clinical competence and legal scope of practice.
Education preferred is a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
Acute care facility experience is preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor is required.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required at the time of hire.
Demonstrated competency in Dysrhythmia is required during orientation.
For critical care units, completing a Critical Care Course within one year of hire is required.
Demonstrated competency in IV Sedation is required within six months of hire.
If applicable, requirements for perinatal and PACU/SDS certifications also apply.
Essential functions include utilizing the nursing process to assess patients.
An individualized plan of care is designed and implemented for assigned patients.
The effectiveness of the care plan and patient progress towards established goals are evaluated.
Collaboration with other disciplines occurs to formulate comprehensive care plans.
The nurse applies knowledge of illnesses, injuries, diseases, and developmental stages in patient care.
Educating patients and families is crucial to promote compliance and understanding.
The nurse responds to emergency situations according to established protocols.
Accountability for clinical decision-making on assigned shifts is expected.
Continuity of care is ensured by processing and following through on physician orders promptly.
As a patient advocate, the nurse ensures the preservation of patient rights.
Communication skills are utilized to ensure effective dialogue with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
Documentation of nursing interventions and care provided is required.
Technical aspects of patient care are performed according to established policies and procedures.
Administering medications and IVs is done with consideration of age-specific needs.
Emergency procedures, such as CPR, are performed as necessary.
Safe use of medical equipment is demonstrated, including infusion pumps and monitoring devices.
Other job-related duties may be assigned as needed.
