Nursing care is prescribed based on the nursing process, consistent with the medical plan of care. Input from the patient and significant others is incorporated into care planning. Collaboration with physicians and other healthcare team members is essential for coordinating patient care. Patient age ranges from neonatal, infant, child, adolescent, adult, to geriatric. Teaching and discharge planning needs are included in the overall care plan. Delegation of specific patient care tasks to other nursing staff is based on current clinical competence and legal scope of practice. Acute care facility experience is preferred. Demonstrated competency in dysrhythmia during orientation is required for all departments except Obstetrics and NICU. Completion of a critical care course within one year of hire is necessary. PALS certification within one year of hire and IV sedation competency within six months of hire are required for PACU/SDS roles. Essential functions include utilizing the nursing process to assess patients and design individualized care plans. Patient responses to care are evaluated, and plans are modified as necessary. Cultural, age-specific, and spiritual needs are considered in care delivery. Collaborations with other disciplines help to formulate comprehensive care plans. Knowledge of pharmacology is applied when administering medications and IV therapy. Patient and family education is provided during all phases of care delivery. Emergency patient situations are responded to following established protocols. Oversight of patient care delivery is essential for safety and wellbeing. Continuity of care is ensured through timely processing and follow-through on physician orders. The nurse advocates for patient rights and intervenes when necessary. Documentation of assessments, interventions, and care delivered is mandatory. Technical aspects of patient care are performed according to established policies and procedures. Emergency procedures, such as CPR, are executed as required. Safe use of patient care equipment is demonstrated consistently. Other job-related duties may be assigned as necessary. Safety and wellbeing of associates and patients are prioritized, including required vaccinations. Medical and religious exemptions may apply.
