Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: RN License required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIH-SS Must-Have: 1. 1 year of step-down ICU/IMC/PCU experience. 2. 1 year of telemetry/cardiac monitoring experience. Description: This is a high acuity step-down unit. The unit provides care for patients needing close monitoring and specialized nursing interventions. It has a total of 19 beds. The staff on the unit includes 7 RNs. During day shifts, there is 1 charge RN and 6 RNs scheduled. Night shifts also have 1 charge RN and 6 RNs. The patient ratio on the unit is 3:1. Equipment used in the unit includes bedside monitors, IV pumps, heated humidity high flow oxygen, BiPap, chest tubes, tracheostomy, feeding pumps, gastric tubes, and surgical drains. EMR system utilized is EPIC. Experience with tracheostomy patients requiring continuous BiPap or long-term ventilator support is preferred. Experience with titratable drips including dopamine, dobutamine, nitroglycerin, cardene, ketamine, heparin, Cardizem, and amiodarone is advantageous. Knowledge of CIWA assessments and alcohol/drug withdrawal treatment is a plus. Typical procedures performed on the unit include emergent cardioversion. Moderate sedation procedures will take place in a designated procedural area. The ideal candidate will be positive and team-focused. Candidates should be adaptable to quickly changing acuity and enjoy a busy, fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include completing physical assessments, intake and output rounds every 4 hours, hourly safety rounds, and performing positioning and activities of daily living every 2 hours as indicated. Bedside handoff is mandatory for all shift changes. Shifts will generally include every other weekend requirements. In the event of low census, delayed start may be utilized instead of on-call shifts.
