Start Date: October 26, 2026
Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants
Schedule: 12-hour day shifts, 36 or 48 hours per week available. Patient ratio 1:3-4. Every other weekend required. Contract length 13 weeks or longer through February 27 end date.
Highlights:
- 20-bed ICU stepdown unit with average daily census of 18 patients, operating similarly to an intensive care environment
- Diverse patient population including post-rapid response, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, post-operative patients, and obstetric complications
- Advanced critical care skills utilized daily: arterial line management, vasoactive drip titration (Levophed, Dopamine, Cardizem, Precedex, Cardene, Neo), conscious sedation, and dysrhythmia management
- Epic charting system with Pyxis medication management
- Comprehensive interdisciplinary support including IV teams, respiratory services, rapid response teams, and pharmacy
- Floating as needed to sister ICCU unit; accepts first-time travelers and local candidates
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of progressive care or stepdown nursing experience required
- Active RN license (North Carolina or Compact State)
- Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Demonstrated proficiency with arterial lines, vasoactive drip titration, telemetry interpretation and dysrhythmia management, conscious sedation, IV starts
- Experience with central line care, PICC management, blood product administration, chest tubes, BIPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomy management
- Strong critical thinking skills and ability to manage complex, hemodynamically unstable patients
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start date
- Availability for hospital orientation during first week (full-day classes required)
- Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
