Description:
The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame.
The RN provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, and resources within the philosophy of the institution.
The RN performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service.
The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.
The RN maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team.
The RN completes initial assessments upon patient admission and develops appropriate plans of care based on patient and family needs.
The RN implements plans of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.
The RN modifies plans of care based on continuous evaluation.
The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
The RN communicates with others directly and privately when necessary to resolve issues.
The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers and confers with colleagues to expand their knowledge base.
The RN identifies their own learning needs and takes initiative to find appropriate solutions.
The RN fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies.
The RN assesses IV sites every four hours and starts new IVs per policy.
The RN must maintain documentation standards as evidenced by passed quarterly chart audits.
The RN must attend five out of six staff meetings per year.
The RN must identify changes in patient status and respond appropriately.
