Description:
The Wound and Ostomy Registered Nurse establishes satisfactory interpersonal relationships with co-workers and colleagues, patients, families, and significant others.
Initiates communication with patients and families to determine individual needs.
Initiates communication with colleagues in other disciplines and departments to share and exchange ideas and information about related activities and needs.
Provides detailed patient education to patients and family members during inpatient stay and at the time of discharge following prescribed teaching plans.
Responds effectively, both verbally and non-verbally, to communications from patients, families and significant others, as well as subordinates, colleagues, department heads, supervisors, physicians, and more.
The decisions and actions of the Wound and Ostomy Registered Nurse on behalf of patients are determined in an ethical manner.
Demonstrates sensitivity to the values of self and others.
Involves patients and families in the plan of care, incorporating their cultural, spiritual, and other belief systems.
Physical demands involve standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and bending.
May include some repetitive motions.

Required skills include the ability to prioritize and problem solve.

Bachelor’s Degree is required, and a Master’s Degree in Nursing is preferred.
Wound and Ostomy Certification is preferred.
