Position Overview
NuWest is seeking highly skilled Operating Room Registered Nurses for an 8-week contract assignment in metropolitan Los Angeles. This role requires a minimum of one (1) year of recent OR nursing experience in a community-based acute care hospital, along with successful completion of formal perioperative training. RNs must bring multi-specialty competency and the adaptability to support both complex and routine surgical procedures while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and sterile technique.
Key Responsibilities
- Circulate and assist across a broad range of surgical specialties, including Orthopedics, Robotics, Ophthalmology, Colorectal, ENT, Plastic Surgery, Gynecology, Urology, Vascular, Podiatry, Thoracic, and General Surgery.
- Maintain strict sterile technique and aseptic practice throughout all phases of each surgical procedure.
- Anticipate surgical team needs, manage instrument and sponge counts, and ensure efficient intraoperative workflow.
- Perform comprehensive perioperative patient assessment, serving as the patient's advocate throughout the intraoperative experience.
- Manage specialty-specific surgical instrumentation, equipment, and supplies in accordance with OR protocols.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and OR support staff to optimize patient outcomes.
- Recognize and respond promptly to intraoperative complications, adapting effectively to rapidly evolving surgical conditions.
- Accurately document intraoperative nursing care and maintain compliance with OR policies, regulatory standards, and infection control requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in California.
- Minimum one (1) year of recent Operating Room nursing experience in a community-based acute care hospital, including successful completion of formal perioperative training.
- Demonstrated competency circulating and assisting across multiple surgical specialties, including Orthopedics, Robotics, Ophthalmology, Colorectal, ENT, Plastic Surgery, Gynecology, Urology, Vascular, Podiatry, Thoracic, and General Surgery.
- Required certifications: AHA BLS, ACLS, PALS, MAB or CPI, and LA City Fire and Life Safety Card (must be LA City-issued).
- Must complete LA County Employee Health Clearance prior to assignment start date.
