Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse – Travel Contract

Facility: WVU Health System facility — exact facility name/location not provided
Shift: Day shift, 6:45 AM–5:15 PM
Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts, Monday–Friday
⏰ Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours/week

Unit Information

• OR Rooms: 3 operating rooms and 1 procedure room.
• Case Volume: Approximately 20–22 cases on Tuesdays/Thursdays and 6–14 cases on Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays.
• Staffing: Typically 2 OR staff members, including an RN and/or OR Tech, per room.
• Orientation: 3 department shifts with a preceptor after general hospital orientation.
• Travelers generally do not float; occasional floating may be considered within the candidate’s scope.

Required Certifications

• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• PALS (AHA)

BSN is not required. Prior travel experience is preferred, but first-time travelers may be considered if they have strong experience in a similar OR.

Common Surgical Procedures

• Orthopedics: Total hip, knee and shoulder replacements, arthroscopies, ACL repairs, and non-complicated fractures.
• General Surgery: Bowel resections, gallbladder procedures, appendectomies, and endoscopic procedures.
• Other Specialties: Ophthalmology, breast biopsies and mastectomies, OB/GYN, urology, plastics, and ENT procedures.
• Scrubbing is not required for RNs.

Call & Weekend Requirements

• Weekday night and weekend call is required.
• Approximately 3–4 call shifts per month for RNs; actual call frequency may vary.
• Weekday call shifts are generally 7:00 AM–7:00 PM; weekend call covers 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday.
• Weekend call rotation is approximately every 7–8 weeks.
• 30-minute call response time: Must be dressed and ready to work within 30 minutes.
• Holidays are covered through the call rotation.
• The OR is normally closed on weekends and holidays except for call coverage.
