PACU RN – Post-Anesthesia Care Unit

Shift: Day | 5x8-hour shifts | 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
Schedule: Variable day shift — 7, 8, 9, or 11-hour shifts
Experience Required: 1 year
Call: May be required — 1–2 days, 8:00 PM–6:00 AM; weekend call 7:00 AM–7:00 PM
Weekend Coverage: Yes
Float: Pre-op, Phase I PACU, and Phase II PACU
Orientation: 40 hours
Daily Census: 15
Patient Population: Adolescents, Adults, Pediatrics, Geriatrics
Local Radius: 50 miles
Local Candidates: Accepted at a lower bill rate

• Phase I PACU and Phase II Recovery
• Pre-op assessment and education

• Care of ventilated patients
• End-tidal CO₂ monitoring
• Dysrhythmia recognition and management
• Arterial line management
• IV vasopressors
• Blood product administration
• Chest tube management
• Pain assessment and management
• Nerve blocks
• PCA pump management
• Emergency medications
• Malignant hyperthermia protocol
• RASS
• Reversal agents
• Starting and maintaining IVs

• Abdominoplasty
• Bilateral tubal ligation
• Pre/Post cardiac procedures

Special Procedures: All procedures except cardiac procedures are staffed by Pre-op/PACU. GI procedures are also staffed by Pre-op/PACU.

Compliance & Assignment Requirements

• Compact license must be in hand at submission
• Maximum 7 days RTO; all RTO must be submitted upfront
• Must commit to working 3 of 5 holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, or New Year's Day
• Two references covering 1 year within the last 3 years
• Cannot submit to more than one Providence facility at a time
• Travelers may float to nearby sister facilities
• No direct facility contact unless an interview has been coordinated
• Modules are completed pre-start/during orientation and are non-billable
• Return staff may return after 3 months
