Registered Nurse – PCU (Cardiac Stepdown)

Facility: Lovelace Medical Center – The Heart Hospital of New Mexico
Location: Albuquerque, NM
Start Date: 08/17/2026
Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: Night 4x12-Hour (18:30 - 07:00)
Schedule: Option of 36 or 48 Hours/Week Available
Patient Ratio: 1:4-5 (Unit Standard: 1:5)
Charting System: Epic
Float Required: Yes, to like units within scope
Call Requirement: None
 

Job Duties:

• Provide specialized nursing care to PCU patients with complex cardiovascular conditions including CHF, STEMI/NSTEMI, and post-cardiac procedures.
• Monitor telemetry, interpret dysrhythmias, and manage patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring and clinical interventions.
• Administer cardiac medications, manage heparin protocols, cardiac drips, IV therapies, and monitor patient response.
• Provide care for patients recovering from cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, MI, and cardiac surgery procedures.
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to develop care plans, educate patients, and promote safe discharge planning.

Requirements:

License: Active RN License (NM or Compact License accepted; pending NM/Compact license accepted if obtained before start)
Experience: Minimum 2 years RN experience preferred; Cardiovascular/PCU experience required; 1+ years considered
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (CPI preferred)
Other Requirement: Epic experience required; telemetry and cardiac stepdown experience required; travel experience not mandatory.

Patient Ratios: 1:4-5
Patient Population: Adults and Geriatrics with cardiovascular and complex medical conditions
Patient Diagnoses:

Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)

STEMI/NSTEMI

Cardiovascular disorders

Post-cardiac catheterization patients

Post-cardiac surgery patients

Dysrhythmias requiring telemetry monitoring

Neurological/CVA patients (preferred experience)

Local travelers accepted. Choice of 3x12 or 4x12 schedule available.
