Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring 2 years of experience and a NC or compact RN license.

Details

• PCU with mixed acuity PCU and MS/Tele patient population
• Patient ratios of 1:4-5, with extreme situations reaching 1:6
• 12-hour night shifts from 18:45-07:15
• 13-26 week assignment length with 36 hours available
• Float requirement to like units
• Weekend requirement of every other weekend
• Patient population includes COPD, pneumonia, respiratory distress, COVID-19, flu, and PE cases
• Unit cares for chronic trach/vent patients with no nurse assigned more than one vent patient at a time
• Unit is 48 beds total with CNA ratio of 9-10:1
• Uses chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, and drips including Dopamine, Cardizem, and Heparin
• Charting systems include Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR
• Block scheduling may be accommodated based on unit needs

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license (pending license/certs OK for consideration)
• Current BLS and ACLS certification required; NIHSS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of experience in high acuity med-surg with occasional PCU patients required
• Must have 1:6 ratio experience within the last 5 years
• Skills required: IV starts, vent management, telemetry monitoring, CPAP/BiPAP management, and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias
• Epic charting experience preferred
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

• Unit resources include a team lead rounding in a 3:1 ratio, two respiratory therapists, and an assistant nurse manager on all shifts including weekends
• Additional support includes an Admission/Discharge nurse, Vascular Access Team, RRT, Code Team, and Behavioral Health Team
• Scrubs not provided; white or navy blue required
• Unit orientation is 24 hours with weekly orientation schedule
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (PERM/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before applying, with facility approval required
• Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between travel or per diem status
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
• Travel pairs allowed if on different units with separate transportation and schedules
• RTO up to 7 days can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO allowed during first week of assignment
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
