Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU (Medical-Renal) position requiring a VA or compact license and prior stepdown/IMC experience.

Details

• Work in the Progressive Care Unit (Medical-Renal) of an acute care teaching hospital
• Patient population includes adults and geriatric patients, including one bed dedicated to chronic vent patients
• Serves Hospitalist Medicine patients with renal and other medical diagnoses, as well as GI, pulmonary, and surgical/procedural patients covered by hospitalists
• Patient ratio of 1:5
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (6:45p-7:15a)
• Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block
• Floating required within skillset
• Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

• Active VA State or Compact RN license required unless candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state, in which case a pending license may be accepted
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 1 year of experience required, 2 years preferred
• Prior experience in PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown settings required
• Epic charting experience required
• Skilled in cardiac monitoring and emergency response, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and management of cardiac drips (without titration)
• Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care and management
• Skilled in respiratory support via nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
• Experience with rapid response/code teams and isolation precautions/PPE
• Prior charge experience preferred

Additional Information

• Provide telemetry and medical-surgical nursing care within a stepdown/PCU setting
• Must work one holiday per 13-week contract, with two holidays required during winter holiday periods (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve/New Year's Day)
• Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2-week period
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply, provided they have experience at a large facility
• Local candidates may be accepted depending on distance from facility
• Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year break before returning as a traveler
• Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, with exceptions reviewed case-by-case by facility leadership
