Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) role requiring high acuity PCU patient experience and an active OH or compact RN license.

Details

  • Medical Oncology unit with progressive care beds and a small amount of med-surg patients
  • 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU-level care
  • Patient population includes solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses
  • Rare pediatric patients on the unit, typically cared for by permanent staff (pediatric experience not required)
  • Staffing ratio approximately 1:4-5 for Med Surg Telemetry and 1:3 for PCU
  • Uses GE B450 telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, continuous bladder irrigation, and PCA pumps
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (7:00 PM-7:30 AM), 3x12 hours per week
  • May be scheduled for a rotating 12-hour day/night contract based on department needs, with shift assignments reviewed every 4-week period
  • Weekend shifts are variable
  • Required to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of acute care experience required, current and consistent within the last 12 months, in the specialty applied for
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • ICU and PCU backgrounds also considered a good fit
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • Required skills include dysrhythmia interpretation, rapid response team use, feeding tube management, port access, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line care, IV starts, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management, PCA, chest tube management, external CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula use, and tracheostomy management
  • Preferred skills include dysrhythmia management, IV insulin protocols, insulin drip titration, phlebotomy, chemotherapy administration and monitoring, wound care/wound vac, arterial line management, surgical drains, and non-invasive airway management
  • 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role; Charge RN acceptable for the second reference; no coworker references accepted

  • RTO must be submitted with the application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
  • Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this health system
  • Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting requirements promptly after signing the contract; those outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to a fingerprinting location, while those farther away will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet
