Description

American Traveler is hiring a Night Shift RN for a Pediatric ICU position requiring 2 years of PICU experience and a SC or compact RN license.

Details

  • >Level I Trauma Center, teaching hospital, Magnet-designated facility with 820 total staffed beds
  • 28-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit caring for children ages 0-18 across South Carolina
  • Mixed unit caring for both intensive and intermediate/stepdown patients with a blend of medical and surgical diagnoses including respiratory compromise, trauma, post-operative surgical, and neurology/neurosurgery cases
  • Unit provides ventilatory and cardiac support, ECMO/CRRT, renal or peritoneal dialysis, and pediatric palliative care as needed
  • Staffing includes RNs, Patient Care Technicians, and Unit Secretaries, supported by Respiratory Therapy, Pediatric Dietitians, and Pediatric Pharmacists
  • Patient ratios vary between 1:1, 1:2, and 1:3 depending on acuity
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
  • Up to 5 weekend shifts required per 4-week schedule, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required within scope to meet facility needs
  • Uses Epic EMR system

Requirements

  • Active RN license (South Carolina or Multi-State/Compact) required
  • Current AHA-issued BLS and PALS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required
  • Experience with ECMO and CRRT preferred
  • Prior charge nurse experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center experience preferred
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Previous MUSC perm or PRN staff must be separated from the system for at least 1 year before returning as a traveler

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive intensive and intermediate care to pediatric patients ages 0-18 with complex medical and surgical needs
  • Manage patients requiring ventilatory support, ECMO/CRRT, and renal or dialysis therapies
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team including Respiratory Therapy, Pediatric Dietitians, and Pediatric Pharmacists
  • Holiday coverage required if contract dates fall during a holiday period
  • Candidates residing within 60 miles of the facility are considered local; non-local candidates are prioritized
  • First-time travelers will be considered, though an interview is preferred for candidates on their first travel assignment
  • All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at the time of consideration for approval based on unit needs
  • During hurricane season (June through November, with peak activity in August and September), all staff including travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams
