Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Pediatric ICU (PICU) position requiring a VA or compact RN license and current BLS/PALS certifications.

Details

  • 13-week travel assignment in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
  • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM), with possible rotating shifts
  • Patient ratio of 1:2
  • Required to work 3 weekends per six-week schedule
  • Required to work every other holiday
  • May be required to float to NICU and Acute Care Pediatrics based on staffing needs
  • Uses Epic charting system

Requirements

  • Active VA or compact RN license required (pending license accepted, must be in hand by the Wednesday before start date)
  • Current BLS and PALS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of previous charge nurse experience required
  • Prior Epic EMR experience required
  • Pediatric cardiac experience preferred
  • Trauma Level I experience preferred
  • Skilled in respiratory care including ventilator management, ETT/NT suctioning, tracheostomy care, and interpretation of ABGs
  • Experience with IV therapy, central line care, and administration of blood/blood products
  • Experience administering emergency and high-alert medications including vasopressors, antiarrhythmics, and continuous sedation
  • Experience with cardiovascular monitoring including CVP, hemodynamic monitoring, and dysrhythmia management
  • Experience with neurologic care including EVD and ICP monitoring
  • Two professional references required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care to critically ill pediatric patients in the PICU setting
  • Float within scope of practice to NICU and Acute Care Pediatrics as needed based on staffing
  • Maximum of 40 hours of RTO approved per 13-week contract, with all RTO required to be disclosed at time of submission
  • No time off approved during the first 2 weeks of the contract
  • Any vacation time planned between sign date and start date must be disclosed to allow for an appropriate start date
  • Specialty-specific orientation modules completed during onboarding
  • First-time travelers may be considered
  • Previous UVA Health permanent staff or internal/external travelers require a 1-year separation period and leadership approval before returning
  • External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days at this facility
  • No radius rule applies to this position
