Key Responsibilities
Provide intensive respiratory care including operation of invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices as physician prescribed
Perform arterial punctures, suctioning, chest physiotherapy, oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, and 12-Lead EKG with basic arrhythmia recognition
Assist with respiratory-related procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; perform tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes
Perform insertion and removal of endotracheal tubes via freehand technique and/or video laryngoscope system; conduct cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines
Set up, self-test, operate, and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment; assist with preventative maintenance and repair as needed
Document all treatments and patient responses accurately in respiratory care records and patient charts; communicate with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy effectiveness and report during shift-to-shift handoff rounds
Required Qualifications
Active Respiratory Therapist license in good standing
Current BLS and ACLS certification
Experience operating invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment
Ability to perform arterial punctures and interpret results to assess ventilation efficiency
Competency in performing pulmonary function studies, chest physiotherapy, and patient suctioning techniques
Preferred Experience / Skills
Experience in moderate complexity laboratory testing including specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation
Familiarity with PleurX catheter drainage procedures
Experience with video laryngoscope systems for endotracheal intubation
