Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA)

Job Description

The RN First Assistant (RNFA) is a highly trained Registered Nurse who plays a crucial role in supporting surgical procedures alongside surgeons and the healthcare team. This position involves collaboration to ensure safe operations and optimal outcomes for patients while practicing perioperative nursing.

Key Responsibilities

• Assisting surgeons during operations by performing specialized tasks within the operating room.
• Collaborating with the surgical team to ensure a safe and effective perioperative experience.
• Practicing in alignment with the surgeon's direction during the operative phase.
• Performing duties of the Operating Room staff RN when not assigned to RNFA responsibilities.

Job Requirements

• NYS Registered Professional Nurse License (pending applications are accepted).
• Completion of an accredited RN First Assistant course.
• CNOR certification required.
• Robotic surgery experience preferred across multiple specialties, including:
• • Robotic Urology
  • Robotic Gynecology
  • Robotic Colorectal
  • Robotic Surgical Oncology (e.g., Whipple procedures, gastrectomies, hernia repairs)
  • Robotic Thoracic
  • Robotic General Surgery (e.g., gallbladders, appendectomies)
• Two (2) years of experience OR experience in a Level 1 trauma setting preferred.

Certifications

• BLS certification (American Heart Association only)
• ACLS certification preferred (American Heart Association only)
• CNOR certification required

Schedule

This position is a full-time role, requiring 36 or 48 hours per week, with day shifts from Monday to Friday. There are on-call responsibilities until 11 PM as needed by the unit. No weekend or holiday shifts are assigned.
