Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) – School-Based Responsibilities
- Implement established intervention plans designed to support students’ IEP goals and educational participation.
- Provide direct services in individual, small-group, classroom, and other school-based settings.
- Support students in developing fine-motor, visual-motor, sensory-processing, self-care, handwriting, executive-functioning, and functional school-participation skills.
- Use therapeutic activities, exercises, adaptive strategies, and evidence-based interventions selected in collaboration with the supervising Occupational Therapist.
- Collaborate with teachers, families, administrators, paraprofessionals, and related service providers under the direction of the supervising Occupational Therapist.
- Maintain accurate treatment notes, service logs, progress documentation, and other required records in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements.
- Maintain student confidentiality and follow FERPA, district policies, and applicable professional standards.
Qualifications
- Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
- Active Occupational Therapy Assistant license
- NBCOT Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) certification
- Previous pediatric or school-based occupational therapy experience is preferred.
- Experience implementing IEP-related interventions and maintaining accurate service documentation is preferred.
- Knowledge of fine-motor development, sensory processing, visual-motor integration, self-care skills, adaptive equipment, and educationally relevant occupational therapy services.
- Ability to implement established treatment plans and work effectively under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist.
- Ability to meet all district onboarding, background-screening, fingerprinting, and health requirements.
