Description:
The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating students in grades K-12 with speech, language, voice, fluency, resonance, and social communication disorders.
The SLP serves as both a direct service provider and a consultant to educators, families, and campus teams.
The goal is to ensure students receive appropriate interventions and support services to access and succeed in the educational environment.
The SLP supports the mission by helping students with communication disorders make meaningful educational progress and develop skills necessary to lead successful and independent lives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct speech-language screenings, evaluations, and re-evaluations.
Assess students referred for suspected speech or language impairments.
Observe students and collect educational, developmental, and behavioral data.
Review educational records and teacher reports during the evaluation process.
Determine eligibility for speech-language services in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Prepare comprehensive evaluation reports and recommendations.
Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Establish measurable communication goals and objectives.
Participate in meetings related to student evaluations and recommendations.
Present evaluation findings to families and educational teams.
Monitor student progress toward IEP goals and revise interventions as needed.
Ensure compliance with applicable education regulations.
Provide individual and group speech-language therapy services.
Deliver evidence-based interventions targeting various communication disorders.
Document therapy sessions and student progress.
Maintain accurate service logs and clinical records.
Develop classroom-based intervention strategies when appropriate.
Serve as a resource to teachers, parents, and staff regarding speech and language development.
Collaborate with educators and related service providers.
Support educators in differentiating instruction for students with communication challenges.
Provide recommendations for classroom accommodations and instructional supports.
Assist families in understanding communication disorders and available services.
Knowledge of speech and language disorders, assessment tools, and intervention techniques is required.
Understanding of education compliance requirements is essential.
Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams is important.
Strong organizational and documentation skills are necessary.
Ability to manage multiple evaluations and therapy schedules is essential.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to provide services in classroom and therapy environments.
Ability to move between locations within an assigned region when necessary.
Ability to use educational technology and electronic documentation systems.
Ability to participate in evaluations and student support activities throughout the school day.
