Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care/Stepdown Unit position requiring an IA or compact RN license and prior stepdown experience.

Details

• Acute care Progressive Care/Stepdown Unit in a Level 3 trauma facility
• 22-bed unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Common diagnoses include heart failure, AFib, respiratory distress, and stroke
• RNs required to titrate drips such as Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitro
• Charge nurse on each shift who also carries a full patient assignment
• Patient care techs available at a 1:10 ratio
• RNs must troubleshoot CPAP equipment
• RNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips
• 12-hour night shifts, cyclic scheduling (0630-1900 and 1830-0700)
• Every-other-weekend requirement
• Holiday coverage required for 1 major and 1 minor holiday
• Float to ICU required if appropriate experience is held
• Uses Epic EMR
• 13-week assignment

Requirements

• Active IA or Compact RN license required, pending licenses not accepted
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience required
• Stepdown/PCU experience required
• Must pass a pass/fail open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
• Driver's license required for consideration
• Artificial nails prohibited for all patient care staff

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced unit with frequent admissions and discharges
• Candidates with a positive attitude, strong teamwork skills, and a patient-focused approach succeed in this environment
• One 12-hour shift of unit-specific orientation provided
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
• RTO must be submitted upfront, additional RTO requests will not be approved after submission
• First-time travelers may be considered
