Job Description

The 7 East - Trauma & General Surgery Inpatient Unit is a comprehensive 33-bed facility recognized nationally for Bariatric Surgery. This unit provides a high-impact, fast-paced environment for nurses to handle a variety of challenging patient care situations, including multi-trauma, TBI, fractures, and general surgery patients. The unit integrates both Stepdown and Floor care, allowing nurses to develop skills in two levels of care with staffing ratios of 1:6 for floor patients and 1:3 for stepdown patients.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients with complex conditions such as traumatic injuries, chest tubes, chest-wall injuries, and general surgical needs.
• Utilize advanced skills in wound care, drains, and monitoring devices.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams involving care management and rehabilitation services.
• Administer respiratory support for patients requiring such care.
• Maintain accurate patient monitoring and validation of telemetry readings.

Required Experience

• Must have Epic experience.
• Experience in a Level 1 Trauma setting is essential.
• Prior experience handling a patient ratio of 1:6 for floor and 1:3 for stepdown patients is required.
• A minimum of two years of nursing experience in relevant settings is preferred.

Certifications/Licensure

• BLS certification is required.
• A valid nursing license to practice in the state of West Virginia is necessary.
