Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool position requiring an active AZ or compact RN license and at least 1 year of PCU experience.

Details

• Float position covering MedSurg Tele and PCU units across two hospital campuses, including inpatients holding in the ED
• PCU nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4 and MedSurg Tele ratio of 1:5-6
• Cares for geriatric and orthopedic patients, as well as post-cath, post-MI, and post-CABG (post-op day 3-4) patients
• Required to titrate drips including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin
• Works with CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high-flow equipment
• Monitor techs read telemetry strips on PCU and MedSurg Tele, but nurses must be able to interpret strips independently on Stepdown
• Uses Cerner EMR
• Night shift, 7p-7a, every other weekend required
• Scheduled 6 weeks in advance in 4-week blocks, with flexibility required for the float pool
• No call or standby requirement
• Notified of unit assignment via text message 2 hours prior to shift start
• Travel time between campuses is approximately 20-25 minutes
• First to float among staff

Requirements

• Active AZ or Compact RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of PCU experience required
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within two attempts prior to contract signing
• Must be comfortable managing titratable drips including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin
• Ability to interpret telemetry strips required

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care across MedSurg Tele and PCU units, including managing titratable drips and interpreting telemetry strips
• Each unit has a dedicated charge nurse who does not take a patient assignment
• Nurse aides utilized across all unit settings
• Orientation includes 8 hours of general hospital orientation plus a 12-hour shift at West MedTele and a 12-hour shift at PCU at West
• Dress code is solid color professional scrubs, transitioning to navy scrubs to align with system guidelines
• Travelers included in the holiday rotation alongside permanent staff
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
