Description
American Traveler is hiring a Utilization Review RN for a 13-week assignment in a rural Arizona hospital, requiring 3 years of clinical nursing experience with at least 2 years in inpatient care.
Details
- Position based in a JCAHO-accredited hospital serving a large referral area for the Navajo and Hopi Reservations
- Facility provides comprehensive inpatient/outpatient services including emergency, orthopedics, OB/GYN, and surgical procedures
- Schedule is Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm
- Callback required on weekends and holidays
- 13-week assignment length
Requirements
- Active, unrestricted RN license valid in any US state, Puerto Rico, or US territory
- AZ or compact RN license accepted
- Current BLS certification through AHA required and must be maintained throughout employment
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience performing direct patient care
- At least 2 years of experience in an inpatient setting (medical-surgical, PACU, ICU, Step-Down, Telemetry) or home health direct care required
- Demonstrated knowledge of case management, purchased referred care, and utilization review processes required
- Demonstrated knowledge of electronic health record systems required
Additional Information
- Responsible for verifying medical necessity, confirming patient status, and monitoring ongoing need for services to reduce unnecessary length of stay
- Supports accurate clinical documentation for proper reimbursement
- Coordinates with providers and care team on discharge planning and transitions
- Manages resource use to control costs and communicates with payers to prevent denials
- Ensures compliance with CMS and Joint Commission requirements
- Contributes to reporting and quality improvement efforts
- Serves as liaison between clinical care, finance, and regulatory requirements
- Orientation occurs every 2 weeks
- COVID and flu vaccine exemptions may be accepted with a declination form
- Fingerprinting must be completed prior to start, done via mail during the compliance process
- Full compliance required 2 weeks prior to start date
- Shared contractor housing may be available based on availability; no pets or family allowed per hospital policy
- Housing application must be submitted 2 weeks prior to start date
