HIRING: Traveling Retail Construction Superintendent [Colorado Springs!!]

Job Description

The Traveling Retail Construction Superintendent leads fast-paced retail construction projects from mobilization through closeout, overseeing all on-site activities to ensure schedule, quality, safety, and client satisfaction. This role requires a strong field leader who manages day-to-day site operations, coordinates subcontractors and inspections, maintains clear documentation, and serves as a professional, solution-oriented client-facing representative throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all on-site construction activities from project start-up through turnover on retail construction projects.
  • Run day-to-day site operations, ensuring work progresses according to schedule, quality standards, and project requirements.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, deliveries, inspections, and daily site logistics to maintain an efficient and organized jobsite.
  • Maintain site organization and productivity while ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and retail brand standards.
  • Produce consistent daily reports, progress updates, and look-ahead schedules to keep stakeholders informed.
  • Communicate project status clearly to internal stakeholders and the client team, providing timely updates on milestones and issues.
  • Track project constraints and proactively escalate risks related to schedule, cost, safety, or quality.
  • Own the site Quality Control/Quality Management (QCM) process, including inspections, punch walks, and verification of completed work.
  • Ensure all construction work aligns with approved drawings, specifications, and retail brand requirements.
  • Coordinate corrective actions with subcontractors, document resolutions, and verify that issues are fully closed.
  • Serve as a professional, solution-oriented client-facing representative on site, maintaining strong customer service at all times.
  • Lead and participate in OAC meetings, site walks, punch walks, and turnover discussions with project stakeholders.
  • Drive full project closeout, including punch list completion, as-built documentation, warranties, O&M manuals, inspection sign-offs, and turnover packages.
  • Ensure all closeout documents are organized, complete, and submitted within required timelines.
  • Coordinate final inspections and support a successful handover of the completed space to the client.
  • Enforce site safety protocols and maintain compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, perform safety audits, and maintain required site safety documentation for the jobsite.
  • Manage subcontractor performance, ensuring a safe, productive, and high-quality work environment.
  • Support short-duration builds (typically 12-20 weeks) by driving schedule adherence and managing multiple trades in a fast-track environment.

Essential Skills

  • 4+ years of experience as a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent ready to step into a lead role in retail construction, commercial interiors, or fast-track projects.
  • Proven experience running short-cycle builds with tight schedules and multiple trades on site.
  • Strong understanding of quality control and quality management (QC/QCM) processes, including punch list management and inspections.
  • Hands-on experience in retail construction environments, with familiarity with retail brand standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage subcontractors effectively and maintain a safe, productive jobsite.
  • Solid construction management and construction supervision skills in commercial and retail projects.
  • Proficiency in blueprint reading and interpreting construction documents to guide field work.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong subcontractor relationships and oversee subcontractor performance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort producing daily reports and interacting directly with clients.
  • Strong safety awareness and the ability to enforce site safety protocols in line with OSHA and company standards.
  • Capability to coordinate inspections, logistics, and daily site activities in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with commercial construction and commercial interiors projects.
  • Background working with general contractors on retail-focused construction programs.
  • Experience as a Traveling Superintendent or willingness to travel for projects as needed.
  • Proven success managing fast-track, short-duration builds (typically 12-20 weeks).
  • Comfort leading OAC meetings, site walks, punch walks, and turnover discussions.
  • Ability to thrive in active retail environments where maintaining client-facing professionalism is essential.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing documentation, including as-builts, warranties, O&M manuals, and closeout packages.
  • Customer service mindset with a solution-oriented approach to resolving field issues.
  • Ability to coordinate final inspections and support smooth project handover to clients.

Work Environment

This role operates in a fast-paced retail construction environment with national travel as projects require. The superintendent works primarily on active job sites, coordinating multiple trades and managing short-duration builds, typically ranging from 12 to 20 weeks. The first project is scheduled in Colorado Springs for approximately 8 to 10 weeks. The work involves regular interaction with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams, participation in on-site meetings and walks, and oversight of safety and quality in a dynamic field setting. The environment emphasizes strong communication, detailed reporting, and adherence to brand and construction standards, within a small general contracting culture focused on retail projects across the country.

This is a Contract position based out of Colorado Springs, CO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
