About the Role

The Multimedia Reporter (Turkey) is responsible for pitching, researching, shooting, writing, and editing independent, source-driven digital journalism on a contractor/per-piece basis. Working under the editorial direction of regional editors and digital assignment desks, the reporter produces multimedia stories that examine Turkey's geopolitical footprint across the Middle East, its defense posture, its complex relations with the United States and NATO, and its domestic political and economic trajectory.

This is an agile field-reporting role that moves beyond official government press releases and state-protocol coverage. The reporter investigates Turkey's cross-border military and security operations in northern Iraq and Syria, defense industry exports and drone diplomacy, regional trade corridors (such as the Iraq-Turkey Development Road), diplomatic maneuvering with Gulf states, Egypt, and Iran, and the transactional dynamics of U.S.-Turkey strategic ties. The role also covers domestic macroeconomic stabilization efforts, cost-of-living realities, political realignment, and migration policies affecting the region.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following tasks are considered essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions:

• Pitch, research, report, shoot, write, and edit original multimedia stories, digital video packages, and analytical explainers for MBN platforms.

• Cover Turkey's regional security and defense activities, foreign policy, relations with the United States and NATO, and engagement with Middle Eastern and other international partners.

• Report on significant domestic political, economic, social, migration, and civil-society developments in Turkey and their regional impact.

• Produce enterprise and source-driven journalism that explains complex geopolitical, economic, and security developments clearly and accurately.

• Build and maintain a strong network of political, diplomatic, security, economic, academic, and civil-society sources.

• Gather field reporting, interviews, and visual material independently using mobile journalism and other appropriate production tools, while meeting digital news deadlines.

• Contribute reporting, analysis, translated material, and supporting content to MBN's digital platforms, newsletters, podcasts, and other editorial products, while adhering to MBN's editorial standards for accuracy, balance, verification, and independence.

Perform additional job-related duties and take on new responsibilities as needed based on organizational requirements and circumstances.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Political Science, International Relations, Middle Eastern Studies, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• 3-5 years of professional multimedia reporting experience in Turkey for international news agencies, foreign publications, or independent digital outlets.

• Proven record of producing enterprise digital video, analytical explainers, and reported features that break down complex regional geopolitics.

• Technical proficiency with mobile journalism (MOJO) gear, smartphone shooting, field audio/lighting capture, and editing software (e.g., Premiere Pro, CapCut, Final Cut Pro).

• Deep subject-matter knowledge of Turkish foreign policy, cross-border security operations, defense industries, and domestic political-economic dynamics.

• Working fluency in Turkish and Arabic or English (native or professional working proficiency in Arabic or English, with the ability to interview in Turkish, write clean scripts, and coordinate with regional desks).

• Strong field agility and the ability to turn breaking news and enterprise assignments around on tight digital deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Full trilingual proficiency across Turkish, Arabic, and English.

• Experience reporting for international public media, wire services (Reuters, AP, AFP), or specialized security/economic publications.

• Established access and reporting experience across multiple Turkish regions (e.g., Ankara, Istanbul, the southeastern border provinces, or Aegean hubs).

• Familiarity with data journalism tools and producing infographics, maps, or vertical video explainers.
