Job Overview:
The Turret Operator plays a critical role in warehouse operations by safely operating turret trucks and other powered industrial trucks (PIT) to move, stack, and retrieve merchandise. The operator ensures operational efficiency, safety compliance, and quality standards in the use of turret trucks and other PIT operations, while upholding safety standards and actively participating in improving workplace practices and procedures.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Operate turret trucks to safely stack, move, locate, relocate, and count merchandise, adhering to all safety protocols.
- Transport products to and from designated warehouse locations, including placement at various heights within the racking system.
- Verify the accuracy of order quantities against work orders, and accurately pick and store products per the inventory management system.
- Ensure shipment documentation complies with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Conduct pre-operation checks on PITs, troubleshoot minor issues, and manage equipment maintenance.
- Conduct cycle counts and physical inventories as required, ensuring products are properly labeled and stored in the correct locations.
- Follow all safety practices and immediately report hazardous situations to management.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding inventory levels, product issues, and operational needs.
- Maintain a safety-first approach, including proper PPE compliance and maintaining a hazard-free work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma required.
- Valid Turret truck certification with recertification required every three years.
- Proven experience operating a turret truck or similar equipment in a warehouse environment.
- Physical agility and the ability to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Keen attention to detail with a solid background in warehouse operations.
- Proficient knowledge of safety practices, rules, and company requirements.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish.
- Familiarity with order receipts, warehouse management software (WMS), RF scanning devices, and distribution center locations.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to work as part of a team.
- Understanding of company policies and procedures.
- Capability to lift up to 49 pounds independently and handle products heavier than 50 pounds using safe team-lift methods.
- Physical ability to push, pull, squat, bend, and reach throughout a regular shift.
Physical Demands:
- Operating Machinery: Regular operation of forklifts and other material handling equipment.
- Sitting and Maneuvering: Extended periods of sitting while navigating and operating the forklift within tight spaces.
- Attention to Safety: Constant vigilance and adherence to safety protocols to prevent accidents and ensure safe operation.
- Lifting and Stacking: Manual lifting and stacking of materials when necessary, occasionally handling loads of up to 50 pounds.
- Visual and Auditory Awareness: High level of situational awareness required, with the need to quickly identify hazards and signals.
- Flexibility and Coordination: Bending, reaching, and coordinating movements for loading and unloading materials.
- Working Conditions: Work in warehouses, distribution centers, or outdoor areas, potentially in varying weather conditions, including cold storage environments.
