UI/UX Lead - Job Description

About SynthBee Inc.

At SynthBee, we’re building Collaborative Intelligence (CI)—maximizing the potential of people and computers working together. CI will help humans solve the most important scientific, engineering, design, and creative challenges of our time. We bridge the gap between cutting-edge AI and mission-critical physical systems to create safer, smarter industries.

Role Description

As a UI/UX Systems Lead, you will take ownership of the architecture, implementation, and systemic reliability of the user interface and experience layer. You act as a critical bridge between high-level product strategy and technical execution, ensuring that design intent is translated into scalable, high-performance code.

Required Qualifications

  • Formal Design Systems Engineering: Proven experience applying systems engineering best practices to UI/UX (from discovery to component retirement).
  • Interface Decomposition & Requirements: Proven experience identifying user needs from diverse sources (End Users, Stakeholders, Regulatory accessibility standards like WCAG/Section 508) and deriving verifiable UI requirements. Experience managing functional decomposition of complex workflows into modular design tokens, components, and patterns.
  • Design Tool Governance: Proficiency with advanced design systems management tools (e.g., Figma Variables/Tokens, Storybook, ZeroHeight). Deep understanding of how design scales across platforms (Web, Mobile, Desktop) and localized, multi-region environments.
  • Usability Verification & Validation (V&V): Experience authoring and executing usability testing protocols that verify the intent of system capabilities; management of traceability between user requirements and design validation results.
  • Mission-Critical Ergonomics: Expertise in ensuring interface reliability and clarity in high-stakes and regulated environments (e.g., Healthcare, Defense, Automotive, Government, or Finance). Ability to design for reliability in "low-error" environments where cognitive load management is a primary system requirement.
  • Augmenting Yourself: Expertise in using AI-driven design tools to accelerate wireframing, prototyping, and asset generation. You know how to prompt for UX logic and edge-case discovery while rigorously validating the output for brand alignment and technical feasibility.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Prototyping & Quality Gates: Experience implementing high-fidelity, logic-driven prototypes (e.g., Protopie, Framer). Proven ability to build "Design Quality Gates" within the handoff process to ensure architectural consistency.
  • Production Component Ownership: Strategic proficiency in managing the Full-Stack UI Lifecycle. Experience building reusable, themed component libraries that standardize accessibility, security-conscious inputs, and logging across hybrid-cloud or edge-based applications.
  • Experience Analytics & Reliability: Proven ability to define and monitor User Experience SLIs/SLOs (e.g., Time-to-Task, Success Rate). Expert at performing Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on "User Friction" and using observability suites (e.g., FullStory, Hotjar, or Datadog RUM) to optimize interface performance.
  • Version Control for Design: Experience with branching and merging workflows in Git or design-specific versioning tools.

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-End Experience Lifecycle Design: Engineer the requirements, architecture, and evolution of large-scale design systems. Ensure seamless integration between the visual layer, state management, and the underlying API logic to meet rigorous scalability and mission-critical performance requirements.
  • Design Standards & Governance: Work with Engineering Leads to establish governance for interface control, design-to-code abstraction layers (Design Tokens), and standardized layout patterns to ensure consistency across hybrid environments.
  • Strategic UX Alignment: Collaborate with stakeholders and senior leadership to translate complex business objectives into system-level user journeys, long-term UX roadmaps, and high-level architectural blueprints for the front-end.
  • Hybrid Ecosystem UI Evaluation: Evaluate emerging frontend technologies and interaction models (e.g., Voice, AR/VR, or Agentic UI), focusing on the trade-offs between rich, cloud-connected interfaces and simplified, edge-based offline modes.
  • Experience Risk & Resilience Management: Identify and mitigate "interaction risks," including cognitive overload, dark patterns, and accessibility bottlenecks. Engage in Proof-of-Concept (PoC) initiatives for novel human-computer interaction (HCI) patterns.
  • Complex System Interoperability: Incorporate advanced patterns for data visualization and real-time feedback (e.g., WebSockets, gRPC-web) to enable seamless user awareness across heterogeneous data environments.
  • Cross-Functional Design Leadership: Provide technical leadership in "DesignOps" and UI Lifecycle Management. Champion CI/CD practices that include visual regression testing and automated accessibility audits. Mentor junior designers on systems thinking and the complexities of designing for enterprise-scale distributed fleets.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Note: In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), those functions of the job which are identified essential are required to be performed with or without reasonable accommodations. Requests to facilitate the performance of essential functions will be given careful consideration. Please review SynthBee’s policy on reasonable accommodations in the BeeKeeper’s Guide.
